Who We Are

Michelle Baker

Director & Middle School Teacher

Michelle Baker holds a Bachelor's of the Arts in Secondary English Education from Old Dominion University (Go Monarchs!). Since receiving her bachelor degree, she has worked in the public school system as an English and AVID teacher, substitute, and tutor.

 

During the 2021-2022 school year, Michelle taught a Creative Writing course and American Literature course at KEYS for middle and high school students. She has taught a variety of students ranging from third grade to seniors in high school.

 

Currently, Michelle works as the owner/director of Village Homeschool Academy, as well as the middle school language arts and history teacher. Her specialty is writing composition and literature.

 

Teaching Philosophy: I believe in creating a diverse, engaging, and challenging classroom environment that is welcoming to all. With open communication, team work, and determination, we can achieve great success this school year! 

 

About: I am a mama bear to three beautiful children, a military wife, a bookworm, a teacher, a cat lover, a musical theater fan, and a coffee drinker! 

Ashley Temoche

Fourth/Fifth Grade

Ashley Temoche, also known as Mrs. Tea, currently teaches 4th grade and Spanish at Village Homeschool Academy. She graduated from Norfolk State University (behold the green and gold!) with a bachelor's in psychology and minor in elementary education. Throughout her college career, Mrs. Tea was a part of many different diversity organizations and Operation Smile. While pursuing her degree, she provided private tutoring to elementary children.

 

Prior to joining Village Homeschool Academy, Mrs. Tea taught 4th grade and Spanish at The Virginia Beach School of the Arts. She is first aid, CPR, and MAT certified. She has been working with children in many different roles for over twenty years. Some of the roles and positions she has held include: camp counselor, private tutor, coach, and sports coordinator. She has been teaching and tutoring in Spanish for the past 4 years. 

Teaching Philosophy: As a teacher, my philosophy is providing a positive and encouraging environment. I enjoy looking at the strengths and accomplishments

each student makes. The three key factors in my classroom include: motivating confidence, fostering an enthusiastic classroom and inspiring

individual growth. I thrive to keep open communication with all parents for the success of each student. Teamwork makes the dream work!

About Mrs. Tea: Hey/Hola! I enjoy spending time with my family and making wonderful memories. Four of my children are in sports, you'll find my husband and I on the bleachers for sports events on the weekends!

Tatiana Balaguer-Magaña

Second/Third Grade

Mrs. Tatiana currently teaches the 2nd/3rd grade class and Sewing at Village Homeschool Academy. She holds a Bachelor of the Arts in Early Childhood Education from Chapman University in California. She has taught children of various ages in Early Childhood Education for over 11 years. Mrs. Tatiana is a wife, mom to three cuties, passionate teacher, Navy Veteran, and crafter.

 

Teaching Philosophy: I believe that children need to feel safe, respected, and have fun to be successful in their learning. I've taught over 11 years and I feel fortunate to do what I love each day. I am excited to join you as part of your child’s education team!

Ashley Kulas

Middle School

Mrs. Ashley holds a Bachelor’s of the Arts in K-12 Health and Physical Education from Old Dominion University. She also holds an Associate’s in Arts from Tidewater Community College, as well as an Associate’s in Science from North Florida Community College.

 

Since receiving her bachelors, she has worked in the public school system for over ten years as a Health and Physical Education assistant and substitute. Mrs. Ashley also spent two years at VBSOTA as an assistant for 3rd through 5th grade.

 

Currently, Mrs. Ashley teaches middle school math and science at Village Homeschool Academy! She also privately tutors a handful of students in math. 

 

About: I love all things math and science! 

Likes: softball (all sports), puzzles, spending time with my family, being outside.
